Grace saves and also teaches
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Grace is more than the beginning of the Christian life. It teaches the believer how to live in this present world. Godliness grows from what Christ has done and who we are in Him. The instruction to deny ungodliness is part of grace’s work, not an attempt to earn a place in Christ.
Read Romans 6 before claiming freedom
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Paul’s explanation that we are not under law but under grace is surrounded by teaching against continuing in sin. Read Romans 6:1–13 KJB and Romans 6:15–23 KJB. Freedom from the law as the governing administration is freedom to serve God, not freedom to disregard Him.
Study Galatians 5:13–26 KJB: liberty should serve others through love, and walking in the Spirit stands against the works of the flesh. Grace develops a transformed mind and life.
Prayer with thanksgiving
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Bring your requests to God with thanksgiving. The passage promises the guarding peace of God; it does not promise that every requested circumstance will be changed immediately. Read Paul’s experience in 2 Corinthians 12:7–10 KJB to see sufficient grace in weakness.
Paul’s prayers in Ephesians 1:15–23 KJB, Ephesians 3:14–21 KJB, and Colossians 1:9–12 KJB emphasize knowledge, strength in the inner man, and fruitful living. Let those prayers teach you what to seek for yourself and for others.
Giving with purpose and willingness
Read 2 Corinthians 8–9 KJB as a whole. Paul discusses willing generosity, integrity in handling resources, and care for other saints. In 2 Corinthians 9:7 KJB giving is as a person purposes in the heart, not grudgingly or of necessity. Mid-Acts teaching distinguishes this grace instruction from Israel’s tithe system.
Generosity is not a purchase of salvation or a guaranteed formula for wealth. Giving should be thoughtful, willing, and consistent with honest responsibilities.
Service that grows from sound doctrine
- Let Scripture renew your thinking — Romans 12:1–2 KJB.
- Work honestly and care for others — Ephesians 4:28 KJB.
- Use words that edify — Ephesians 4:29 KJB.
- Practice kindness and forgiveness — Ephesians 4:32 KJB.
- Communicate the gospel clearly — 2 Corinthians 5:18–21 KJB.
Measure spiritual growth by understanding, faithfulness, charity, and godly conduct rather than by dramatic experiences. The believer can serve Christ in family life, ordinary work, local fellowship, and everyday conversation.
